Dolceta – Online Consumer Education
Dolceta (abbrev. from Developing On-line Consumer Education Tool for Adults) is a European Commission (DG SANCO) initiative focused on facilitating information dissemination to and education of consumers. It was tailored to local legal regulations and also to local culture by national expert teams. Dolceta is available online in all EU languages.
Dolceta consists of several parts – also referred to as modules. VIA IURIS takes part in its development as a national team for Slovakia responsible for Module 6, focusing on services of general interest. The aim of this specific module is to help consumers navigate in the market with services required by most people (such as water, gas and electricity supply, telecom services, transport, etc.).
Dolceta is intended for the general public, but also for trainers and teachers in the field of adult and primary and secondary school education. It serves as a training and reference tool for consumer organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, community training programmes and press agencies. It is also a self-study tool for individual consumers.
Contrary to most consumer advisory portals, Dolceta puts emphasis on interactive learning (e.g. in the form of quizzes). Also, contrary to national consumer portals is provides a single entry point for all EU countries/languages and the same content, though tailored to local circumstances, for all EU countries/languages. As the only portal including 27 Member States it provides consumer training content to education professionals (e.g. curricula and training tools) that can be used in classes.
The project is coordinated by EUCEN.
