Pezinok Landfill Case
This is a tale regarding the citizens of Pezinok, who for several years have fought against the construction of a waste processing landfill site in their neighborhood. The reason the citizens of Pezinok have fought so hard to prevent this waste processing landfill site is because they already have one waste dump that is full. The current dump also contains toxic waste, which is already a problem in Pezinok.
Furthermore, public authorities have deliberately and repeatedly broken the law, and have continued with the constitution of this landfill site throughout the permission proceeding. Moreover, the citizens of Pezinok through public engagement continue to try to protect their habitat from this new danger which is the illegally constructed landfill site. The Pezinok citizens are using the method of joint actions with the help of the civic initiative and the local government, and with the legal assistance of Via Iuris to ensure the protection of the Pezinok environment.
A further issue being addressed in this case is the protection of the rule of law, and the democratic political culture in the Slovak country.
Pezinok Landfill Case is also included in the documentary Mozaik, prepared by the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe. The part on the case starts at 9:45 min of the playing time.
Disclosing courts' decisions, issue related also to the Pezinok Landfill Case, is discussed in the article by Imrich Vozár published in Slovak in Otvorené právo.
