"Concert for those who Care"
On the 17th of November it was a unique day and so was the "Concert for those who Care" (Koncert pre všímavých). After a successful premiere last year it was organized again by the Fair Play Alliance and Pohoda Agency on the Day of fight for freedom and democracy, as well as the memories of the events that took place on November 17th, 1989. The concert was held at a traditional venue in Bratislava, known as the Park of Culture (PKO).
The celebration of freedom flooded the entire area of PKO: the program was broken into five stages. Not only fans of music were entertained at this event, but also film, theater, literature, art and even dance fans as well. The concert took place in two halls, in the theater hall there was a literary café, and directly in the foyer there was a dance workshop.
In the evening there were discussions, literary readings, and the White Crow Awards were handed out. As usual VIA IURIS - Center for Public Advocacy and the Fair Play Alliance handed out this year's White Crow Awards. This honor is awarded to exceptional people who are trying to make our society better, and in doing so they undergo great personal risk. More information about the White Crow Awards and the following discussions with many distinguished people can be found here.
The music program was organized into two different segments. The first segment featured music bands that had existed and performed live before November 1989. The second segment featured many current stars from Czech Republic, Slovakia and other foreign music scenes. This event featured famous performers such as the Plastic People of the Universe, Bez ladu a skladu, and many others.
The new movie "Good Morning, Slovakia!" was premiered and presented by its creators Fedor Gál, Martin Hanzlíček and Peter Zajac at this event, as well as the Czech theater group "Na tahu" performed Havel’s legendary play "Protest".
The festival evening started at 17:11 pm at the PKO. It was interesting that before the event even took place more than 400 people confirmed on the social network Facebook that they would be attending the festival.
